The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador plans to allow an ecologically sensitive area of approx 11 sqkms to be clear-cut in the Southwest River Valley. Much of this is inside our Town boundaries, within a designated watershed area,  along a scheduled salmon river. Deforestation will negatively impact our area's major industry, tourism, destroy sensitive wildlife habitat (Caribou, Lynx, Bear, Pine Martin, Owl, Eagle, Osprey, ect.) threaten downstream water quality, increase the likelihood of damage to our homes and infrastructure from increased flooding, ice rifting and wind, and tear out the very heart of Port Blandford. Much this will be done at the Minister's discretion.

The people of Port Blandford have been good stewards to the Valley and Basin. For decades, we have protected a part of the world that is so special to us. Government has refused to meet with us, and plans to destroy our valley despite well documented objection from all across this area. They've refused to consider our proposal to develop eco-tourism to enhance our very successful tourism product.

We are asking for your support to save our Valley for our children, grandchildren, for the generations who will never get to enjoy this unique area if it is destroyed by clear-cutting. We ask that you join us in telling the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, "NO CLEAR-CUTTING IN THE SOUTHWEST RIVER VALLEY!"
