Send Twiggy the Elephant to Sanctuary
The Issue
With your signature you are demanding that Twiggy the Elephant must be removed from the Belgrade ZOO to a proper sanctuary where she can spend her twilight years.

About Twiggy:
My name is Twiggy, I am a prisoner of the Belgrade ZOO.
I am a female Asian elephant, born in 1966. in India's forest, then I was kidnapped from the wild and smuggled to England.
Because of my "bad temper" I was transferred to the Amersfoort Zoo in the Netherlands (on November 30. 1977) where I spent my first 15 years of life in prison.
On October 15th 1990 I arrived in the Belgrade Zoo. I was given as a loan to the Belgrade ZOO for mating (to be partner of their elephant named 'Boy').
I wasn't attracted to this elephant Boy - we just could not get along so we never mated. Boy was sick, he had foot cancer and was very aggressive because of that, so he kept pushing me into the pit that surrounded our enclosure. 7 years after I arrived to the Belgrade ZOO Boy died of cancer. Because of the sanctions toward former Yugoslavia I was never sent back to the Netherlands. I have been living in solitary since 1997. Now I have serious problems with my bones and feet, and I am depressed. My hopes of better life are slowly disappearing. I am desperate and don't see a way out of this miserable life.
Will You help me? I hope that I can go live in a sanctuary and live with other elephants there. My dream is to leave this small enclosure, I forgot what nature looks and feels like ... this here is like living in a tiny room.

Ja sam Tvigi, imam 53 godine, zatvorenik sam u BEO ZOO vrtu. Ovde zivim od devedesetih kada sam dovedena da se parim sa slonom po imenu Boj (koji je 7 godina kasnije umro od raka stopala), Boj i ja se nismo slagali jer je on bio stalno ljut zbog bolova koje je trpeo, nekoliko puta bacao me u jamu koja okruzuje nas smestaj, nismo se nikada sparili). Poreklom sam iz suma Indije, odatle su me oteli kao mladunce i prosvercovali u Evropu, zatvorili su me u ZOO vrt kao "atrakciju". Dugo vec imam kostobolju i bolujem od raznih problema sa nogama i stopalima. Zaboravila sam kako izgleda Priroda, usamljena sam i depresivna. Kavez u kojem provodim zimske dane je suvise mali, taman i vlazan, nemam nikakav vid stimulansa...Ne razumem zasto sam zatvorena ovde...molim Vas pomozite mi. Molim Vas potpisite ovaj Zahtev da me posalju u Utociste za Slonove, pomozite mi da ostatak svog zivota provedem sa svojom vrstom. Hvala, Vasa slonica Tvigi.
Mi potpisani zahtevamo da slonicu Tvigi posaljete u odgovarajuce skloniste/ utociste za slonove. Udruzenja iz Srbije i Regiona ostvarila su kontakt sa pomenutim utocistima i trazimo da nadlezni u kontaktu sa Udruzenjima izvrse transport slonice Tvigi u Utociste za slonove.
