Hi everyone. Let's promote this petition in all our Social Media Platforms so we can get a better living and not what is described next:
It is curious how so many news and thought are being focused on the protest from education workers that are making an average of $18.17 an hour and says that it is not enough to survive with this inflation, and that it is true. They deserve a raise that would be easier to live and not to struggle.
Said that, aren’t we all forgetting the minimum wage workers?
Minimum wage workers are only making $15.50 in Ontario and much less in other provinces.
All provinces should increase minimum wage at least by the same rate of the basic needed items inflation rate.

Posted on OCT 19, 2022: September 2022 Consumer Price Index data: Food and services prices still rising, no progress on core inflation. Gasoline is dragging the inflation rate to a lower rate since it decrease from 19% to 14%, but the basic needs like food, shelter, goods and services are still raising.
In September 2022, basic items like:
Bakery 14.8%
Dairy 9.7%
Meat 7.6%
Vegetables 11.8%
Gas average 13.2%
Transportation 9%
Average rent across Canada 15.4%
The basic needs inflation average is about 11.64%
As per Rental.ca https://rentals.ca/national-rent-report
The average rent for all property types across Canada in September 2022 was $2,043 per month, representing an annual increase of 15.4%. The average rent is up 4.3% monthly and 21.9% from the recent market low of $1,676 per month in April 2021. The average rent is now about $100 more than the pre-pandemic peak level from the fall of 2019.
The average rent for single-family homes in September 2022 was $3,014 per month, which is 12.1% higher.
The average rent for traditional rental apartments was $1,810 per month in September 2022, up 11.8% annually. The increase was 9.8% year over year.
How can a single person rent a one bedroom apartment at an average of $1,743.00 per month in Canada and buy just the food and no other expenses with only $15.50 an hour in Ontario? What about the other provinces where the minimum wage is even lower?
At $15.50 per hour (before taxes) at an average of 37 hours per week; would be a monthly total of $2,294.00 and after taxes maybe about $1,870.00.
No big math needed here, after rent, only $127.00 is left for food never mind all the other needs.
Splitting the rent; if you have a partner a one bedroom apartment would do, and each person would have $1,000.00 left for all the other needs.
If you don't have a partner, a 2 bedroom is needed and the average rent is $2,217.00 in Canada.
After splitting the rent; each person would have $761.00 left for all the other needs.
That said, minimum wage workers have to cut down on all the basic needs cost.
Reducing meals portion, reducing quality, reducing or completely cutting services and other goods.
On top of all this, manufactures are reducing their products volume and sizes to increase their profit: e.g. Campbell’s soup cans was 540ml and now is 515ml.
With this reduction Campbell’s sells and extra 48,543 cans on every million cans that they sell for the same price as the 540ml cans raising their profit by reducing our food. If inflation was not enough, we are paying more for the products and receiving less. Other companies also are reducing the quantaty of the packages and charging more, like Post and Kellogg’s, and several others.
If education workers that makes an average of $18.17 cannot survive with this inflation rate, what is said about minimum wage workers at $15.50 an hour?
Minimum wage should be raise Canada wide by the basic needs inflation rate about 11.64% increasing a $15.50 minimum wage by $1.80 to $17.30 just to survive the inflation.
But minimum wage workers should not just survive, they are not slaves with a minimum pay just to say that they get paid, they need to live, and we all do.
Minimum wage workers should be making at least $20.00 an hour since without the minimum wage workers, there would be no food at anyone’s table, there would be no server at your restaurant, no vendor for your shoes and clothes, etc.
For minimum wage workers to survive, they need a better pay as well as the educator workers.
