Minimize the impact of green forest near Dunn-Loring Metro and coordinate gallow rd design

The Issue

We are asking VDOT and the selected design team evaluate all options and minimize the impact the green forest near Stenwood Elementary School.  During one of the recent public meetings, designers informed us that the proposed sound wall would be at least 50-60 feet away from the existing sound wall location. This will cause large impact to the existing green forest and neighborhood.  However, Steven C. Hankins suggested it was still possible to use the shared lane width concept, reducing the width of regular lane widths to minimize the impact to the neighborhood.

Furthermore, preserving the existing green forest and existing sound wall is a win-win solution. It greatly reduces the project construction cost, reduces land acquisition cost, and minimizes the impact on the I-66 noise and many parcels in Dunn-Loring Woods.

In addition, we are requesting to better coordinate the Gallows Rd expansion project between the county, school, and VDOT. Detailed design should be available for public review.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge VDOT to act now to consider all the design parameters to preserve the existing green forest and the existing sound wall along I-66 in the Dunn-Loring Woods neighborhood.
