Hey fellow Covid haters: Milwaukee's Common Council stepped up big-time today and adopted a mask requirement for public indoor places and for outdoor areas when within six feet of non-relatives!

The measure passed with a unanimous vote at the council, despite last-minute opposition from big-business special interest groups.

Kudos and thank you to the bill's author and leader, Ald. Marina Dimitrijevic!

To the 100+ businesses and organizations who took a stand and told City Hall that Milwaukee needs the requirement -- even in the face of some who loudly questioned your positions -- thank you!

And to all 15 alderpersons, every single one voting yes, and to Mayor Tom Barrett, who is expected to sign the ordinance tomorrow -- thank you!

And to all of YOU -- the more than 15,000 (!) people who signed this petition, and to those of you who also reached out to your alderpersons, too -- THANK YOU! [If you emailed them seeking their support, please take a sec now to send them a quick thank you. Their contact info is here.]

The ordinance is expected to go into effect this Thursday. We'll post more information as it becomes available, including on the city's plan to give away 300,000 masks to those in need.

Nice work, ya'll! No one thinks it will defeat Covid by itself, but the ordinance will be an important tool in slowing the disease's spread and saving lives. Thanks to everyone who helped -- for listening to science and seeking to make Milwaukee safer and healthier!
