Milton Residents Call for Councillor Sameera Ali’s Resignation Over Conduct

Milton Residents Call for Councillor Sameera Ali’s Resignation Over Conduct
The Issue
We, the concerned residents of Milton and Halton Region, call on Town Council and the Integrity Commissioner to act following the events of the November 3rd, 2025 Council meeting.
During that meeting, Councillor Sameera Ali introduced a motion on foreign-policy matters entirely outside municipal jurisdiction. The motion, and the heated debate that followed, created an unsafe and hostile environment where Jewish and non-Jewish residents were shouted down and subjected to antisemitic remarks such as “How much did the Zionists pay you?” and “Shame, Shame”.
Media Reports confirm that the meeting had to be shut down after repeated outbursts, harassment, and division in the Council chamber.
Freedom of expression is vital to democracy, but it must never be used to justify hate or intimidation. The Town of Milton’s Code of Conduct requires councillors to act with integrity, transparency, and respect for all members of the community. It also prohibits using one’s position to advance personal or ideological agendas. By introducing and defending a motion that had no municipal relevance and directly contributed to public disorder, Councillor Ali breached both the spirit and the letter of that Code.
We respectfully call for:
- Councillor Sameera Ali to resign immediately from her position.
- The Integrity Commissioner to launch a formal investigation into her conduct and its impact on public confidence.
- Town Council to reaffirm Milton’s zero-tolerance stance on antisemitism and ensure future meetings remain inclusive and safe for all residents.
This is not a partisan issue. It is about protecting the principles of respect, inclusion, and accountability that make Milton a community we can all be proud of.
This petition reflects our shared belief that leadership in Milton must be built on respect, unity, and accountability. We are calling for a return to civility in our local government and for decisive action that restores public trust.
Sign this petition to stand for integrity, safety, and respect in our town.
