Shut down the Chadwick Landfill

Shut down the Chadwick Landfill
Why this petition matters

The Chadwick Landfill has been "at capacity" since my family moved in to the Providence Lake Subdivision eight years ago. Our subdivision abuts the backside of the landfill. We have been told by neighbors that have lived here even longer that there is perpetual talk of the landfill closing, but it never seems to happen. At first it was just the noise of heavy equipment pushing detritus. There are supposed to be barriers to keep the trash contained, but our neighbors who live immediately adjacent to the landfill have shown us pictures of trash strewn about and never addressed by the landfill owners. Then there were the several years of large flocks of vultures that would take up residence at our clubhouse and pool area, drawn to whatever else was being buried up there that was obviously not just construction waste. There are also serious concerns about the air quality surrounding the landfill. Finally, have come the fires. We have had two large fires in the past several months, with the one last night taking over eight hours to contain and will still not be extinguished due to the hazardous materials that are being dumped in our backyards. Please force this landfill to finally shutter it's operation. With Milton's reputation as being a bucolic sanctuary, this environmental eyesore is further amplified as a long-standing blight.
