Milton 4064 Locals Deserve Fair and Affordable Parking

The issue

We, the residents, workers, and small business owners of Milton 4064, are asking Brisbane City Council to urgently rethink the recent changes to street parking in our area.

These changes are hitting our community hard — making it harder to live, work, and do business in the place we call home.

What's Going On?
The Council has removed free 1P, 2P, and 4P parking and replaced it with 3-hour paid parking via app — at a whopping $6.90 per hour.

That’s almost $56 a day just to park on a public street — with no cover, no CCTV, no lighting, and no added safety.

This change is:

  • Unfair to workers who drive due to limited public transport or family commitments
  • Unreasonable for local businesses, who are now struggling to keep staff and attract customers
  • Unsupported by improvements — no better infrastructure, no new services, no added value
  • Damaging to our local economy, as office workers stay home and the area quiets down

This Isn’t Premium Parking — It’s Just a Street
Let’s be real: these are regular streets, with no shelter, no monitoring, and no added features — but they’re being priced like high-end parking facilities.

$60 a day for uncovered, unsecured, basic parking? That’s not fair. That’s not right.

Locals Already Pay Their Way
We’re not asking for handouts — we’re already contributing:

  • Residents pay rising council rates
  • Workers pay taxes and vehicle registration
  • Many of us live and work in Milton, giving back to the local economy every day

Now we’re being asked to pay again — just to go to work or visit a local business.

It’s starting to feel like we’re being charged three times over for the same streets we already support.

This Policy Is Hurting Milton
Here’s what we’re seeing:

  • Offices sitting empty as workers stay home
  • Local shops and cafés seeing fewer customers
  • Small businesses struggling to keep staff
  • Streets going quiet and losing the local buzz
  • No sign of the parking fees being reinvested back into the community

This isn’t the direction we want Milton to go.

What We’re Asking For
We’re calling on Brisbane City Council to listen to the community and take action:

  • Bring back free 4P parking in key work and business areas
  • Offer affordable, all-day parking permits for local workers and residents
  • Invest in basic parking infrastructure — lighting, signage, and security
  • Show us where our money is going, with real improvements in return

It’s Time for Common Sense
We want a local area that’s safe, vibrant, and accessible — not one that prices people out. These parking changes are making it harder to stay connected, keep jobs, and support local businesses.

Milton deserves better.
