Helen McMonagle started this petition to Boris Johnson and

I've heard of 3 cases in the past few weeks where people have had their dogs stolen, yet police claim it's a 'civil' matter:

1. Ex partner head butts and takes a dog from someone who has had this dog for 8 years. Owner has proof of chip registration, proof of vet bills and a letter from the vet to claim she is the owner for the past 8 years, yet police still class this as 'civil'.

2. Someone steals a dog and sells it. Police call to say that the microchp has been scanned, but there's good news and bad news. We've found your dog, but it's been sold on, so it's now a 'civil' matter. So that means anyone can take your dog and sell it??

3. Someone who visited your property just decides to take your dog. You tell police who took the dog and the property it's at, but yet they still class this as 'civil'????

Millie's Law asks that the law be changed immediately!

If I had my car stolen, I would report it to the police and it would be returned to me, as its registered owner. Dogs are so much more than material possesion .. they're family.

I'm asking that whoever is the registered owner of a dog, that the dog be returned to them immediately, and that those harbouring stolen pets be held reliable for criminal prosecution.
