Stop the Euthanization of Canada Geese in Mill Creek Park

Recently, Mill Creek MetroParks has made the decision to reduce the population of Canada Geese in the park. According to WFMJ News and the Youngstown Vindicator, the park claims that the geese are a nuisance to guests. Mill Creek Park acts as an active ecosystem for plants, fish, deer, turtles, birds and countless other wildlife. As humans, we have the privilege of seeing this beautiful environment up close. The Canada Geese are a regular part of the park environment; there is not an overpopulation, and the geese are not diseased as far as the public knows. If the park does insist that the birds are a nuisance, a possible alternative solution would be to crack down on rules against feeding them. In addition to the usual bread not being healthy for the geese in the first place, they would likely leave people alone if they do not expect food. Ultimately, killing the geese, no matter how "humane", is not the solution. We believe that these geese should not be killed just because some people forget that animals are an important part of parks, and urge Mill Creek MetroParks to discontinue this harmful process.
