Our dad, Dwain Stanford was found guilty of Felonious Assault, Aggravated Robbery, Assault and Resisting Arrest which carries a mandatory prison sentence for up to 30 years. He suffers from PTSD, and other service connected severe mental and physical health problems that should be taken into consideration before sentencing. He has lived a stellar life up until he experienced an acute mood-derived, psychotic episode while at home. The three primary purposes of prisons are: 1. Being a deterrent to crime. He wasn't committing a crime. He wasn't harming anyone. He wasn't selling or using drugs. A disgruntled neighbor called 911 to report him for using profanity which is NOT a crime! 2. Its used as punishment to the criminal. Dwain has NO criminal history, but he does have a well documented history of PTSD and psychosis. 3. To rehabilitate the criminal. He retired from the United States Air Force and the Department of the Air Force. He doesn't need imprisonment, he needs mental health treatment!
