No Alt-Right Speakers or Hate Groups at CSUF
No Alt-Right Speakers or Hate Groups at CSUF
Cal State Fullerton may be the stage for an Alt-Right circus show. Milo Yiannopoulos is in the process of being contracted to bring his hatred and bigotry to our place of learning. With the increasing political tension and presence of white supremacy and the alt-right, bringing a figure head who emboldens these groups while oppressing historically marginalized communities is not conducive to a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Milo Yiannopoulos:
- Denounces Black Lives Matter
- Outed Transgender Students on campus; Openly Anti-Transgender
- Attempted to Out Undocumented Students; Openly Anti-Immigration
- Spreads a message of Anti-Feminism
- Claims all Muslims are Terrorists
- Supports the Travel Ban and Proposed Border Wall
- Supporters have been known to incite violence, including at times with firearms and physical weapons
At other Milo Yiannopoulos events, there has been a strong police presence, creating a tense, militarized environment that puts marginalized communities at risk. At Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, the campus and the CSU system spent over $55,000 on 110 police officers to monitor 90 peaceful protestors. In the aftermath of a tuition increase and increasing struggles of students, having students throughout the CSU system pay for this is insulting.
We call on admin to block any attempts to bring these hateful leaders to campus. Protect the civil rights of students. Hate speech to incite violence and threaten the lives of students is not the same as free speech of diverse opinions.
Inviting Milo Yiannopoulos is inviting the alt-right and white supremacists who follow him. Where Milo goes, chaos and violence follows. Allowing him to have a platform validates him and allows these groups to organize within our community.
With 1 in 10 CSU students homeless, 1 in 4 food insecure, and the increasing fees and tuition, the disparities within the CSU system need to become a larger concern for the administrations that lead us. Using student money to bring in speakers that infringe on the civil rights of marginalized communities adds insult to injury. Administration must refocus their attention on the students that pay for this institution.
This is a call to action letting the CSUF Administration know that we do not want Milo Yiannopoulos or any other alt-right figures on our campus. Sign the petition to let CSUF and the CSU system know we will not tolerate violence and hate speech.
