Mikey's Law

Mikey's Law
The Issue
On October 10 th 2021 Michael Benedict was viciously beaten in Crestline Ohio and left for dead. He was unconscious when help arrived. He died on the scene and he was dead for 15 minutes. They revived him and upon arrival to the hospital in Galion ohio he then again had to be revived and was placed on life support. He then was flown to Grant Medical Center where doctors would begin numerous testings trying to find the reason Mikey wouldn't regain consciousness. The three people 2 males and 1 women who were arrested for this crime go to court on October 14th 2021. At this time it is unclear if Mikey would even live from the injuries from this beating. He still showed no signs of waking up. The judge handed down The charges of a 2nd degree falonus assult charge to each of them. Places a bond of 75,000 for the women, 100,000 for her husband and a 150,000 bond for the second male. With in a couple of hours the women bailed out and the next day her husband bailed out. Freedom to walk the streets for a little bit of money while Mikey was still unconscious fighting for his life. Over the next several days more intense test were done on Mikey and he was declared Brain dead. They beat him so viscously they literally caused unrepairable brain damage to all sections of his brain. Mikey will never wake up. The family had to make the hardest decision they've ever had to make, to take Mikey off life support on October 25th, 2021 just 15 days after the attack. The moment Mikey was found beaten left for dead unresponsive at the scene the charges should had been attempted Murder. When these people seen the judge and Mikey was still unresponsive they should have never gotten a bond. Or even gotten a bond so low they easily posted it. At minimum the charges should had been 1st degree falonus assult. We come to you and present what we would like to call Mikey's Law. When anyone beats a person so badly they are unresponsive or need to be revived Or rushed to the hospital by EMT because of the beating should not be allowed a bond until the findings of the victims injuries are clear. The charges should be attempted murder automatically. Mikey's Law would impact so many families who's loved ones sustained such deadly injuries from senseless beatings and prevented the perpetrators from getting a lesser charge and a bond so low they were able to get out of jail. This would have made Mikey's family feel like their loved one mattered. That he wouldn't be just another victim. I know this law wouldn't bring back the victim but it would give the sense of rights for the victim who either passed away or recovered slowly from the injuries. If the victim passes away due to their injuries, the perpetrators would get automatically Life in Prison with out parole. They should automatically get their life taken from them like they took from their victim. We hope you concider Mikey's Law. Thank yoi
