Petition updateStop the execution of Marcellus Williams!Governor Greitens Just Appointed a Board to Review Marcellus's Case

Yesterday, Missouri Governor Eric Greitens appointed five retired judges to review the case of Marcellus Williams. They will prospectively be examining new DNA evidence that many believe will help prove his innocence.
We don’t know much about the board members yet, but we are happy to see that two of the five appointees are African American – one of whom (Carol E. Jackson) was the first African American woman to ever serve as district court judge in the Eastern District of Missouri, and later, became the first African American Chief Judge in her district. This is especially good news considering only one African American sat on Marcellus’ jury during his initial trial.
It’s now up to these five former judges to determine whether or not Marcellus should receive executive clemency. They have the power to influence Governor Greitens’ decision to fully commute Marcellus’ death sentence, or not to. We’re going to need your help to let the board know that the state of Missouri and nation still cares about Marcellus, and will be watching as they review his case.
In the following days, we’ll be sending you more information about these five former judges, what their stance on the death penalty is, and ways you can take action to make sure Marcellus’ case is given a fair and unbiased review.
Thank you for your continued support. Let’s keep up this fight until Marcellus’ death sentence is fully commuted.
