"My son needed help, not locking up". A quote from the mother of Michael Cleator, who was jailed today for 2 years for climbing over a safety barrier on a motorway bridge on the M56. Michael was battling depression and this was clearly a cry for help. Thankfully he was talked down but his actions caused travel disruption for many. This sentence highlights the stigma and lack of understanding that people with mental health problems are challenged with everyday. If it had been one of your friends or family, I'm sure you wouldn't have minded being stuck in a traffic jam to ensure your loved on was helped to safety. Having lost somebody close to me to suicide, I undertand the devestation that it can cause, I want to make a stand against sentence. It is not justified and it is counterproductive. Please sign this petition to ensure that the case gets raised with Mike Kane - Labour MP for Wythenshaw and Sale East with a view to appealing against the decision to send Michael to prison.
