Seward Must Stay

Seward Must Stay
The Issue
In 2016 a statue was raised in Juneau of William H. Seward.
William Henry Seward (May 16, 1801 – October 10, 1872) was United States Secretary of State from 1861 to 1869, and earlier served as governor of New York and as a United States Senator. A determined opponent of the spread of slavery in the years leading up to the American Civil War, he was a prominent figure in the Republican Party in its formative years, and was praised for his work on behalf of the Union as Secretary of State during the Civil War.
The statue of William H. Seward in Juneau needs to stay where is and how is for all future generations.
The petition is being raised to question the action of a small group of citizens wanting to dismantle all things that ultimately honors the peoples history.
The statue in Juneau of William H. Seward is a symbol of history and of how Alaska came to be.
If this small group of individuals get their wish of the removal of this statue then it is going to do nothing to change our history and will only cost the people more money.
The removal of the statue will only serve to increase the tension of the people on both sides of this issue.
