What is Detroit thinking??

Detroit Animal Care and Control has hired a new Director. Mark Kumpf begins Monday (9/23/19) at the shelter.

Director Kumpf was involuntarily fired from his position as Director of the Dayton Ohio shelter (Animal Resource Center of Montgomery County) late last year.

Among the listed reasons for his dismissal include; high euthanasia rates, improperly stored vaccines, reused syringes, and not keeping track of a euthanasia solution called Fatal Plus.

Kumpf is also named independently as a defendant in an ongoing civil lawsuit in the 2014 dog mauling death of Klonda Richey, who had alerted the ARC about a dozen times to a problem dog next door, to no avail.

Documents filed in the case allege the destruction of potential key evidence, including truck logs from 2013 and 2014.

In the wake of our own mauling death tragedies in Detroit, is this who we want running the shelter? -HELL NO!

We fought way too hard to get Harry Ward out of Detroit Animal Control (2015) & the shelter workers to put the CARE back in the name (DACC); which they HAVE... We will not just sit idly by and watch this giant leap backwards!
