I am writing this petition in response to the Ohio Mask Mandate issued on July 23d.

Before the mandate went into effect, we were encouraged, but not forced to wear masks in public areas/work environments. Myself and many others chose not to wear masks in our daycare due to our involvement in caring for children. We felt that it was in the best interest of the children we care for, not to wear masks because of their social/emotional development. Upon doing extensive research on this topic, it became very clear that children need to see faces and expressions in order to properly grow and thrive.

With this mandate, that freedom has been taken away. The children, whom we love and care for on a daily basis, are now afraid of their caregivers. We are jeopardizing their development in these first crucial years of life.

Additionally, the masks which were meant to protect us from germs, are now a target for curious little hands to pull on. It is impossible to care for a group of children without them trying to tear the mask off of your face.

We are asking our government officials for an exemption for childcare workers. Let us choose whether or not to wear masks around the children. Where there is risk, there MUST be a CHOICE.
