Please be aware there is some recent legislation that is making its way through the legislative process. Indiana Senator Jean Leising has authored a bill, SB 249, which will prevent local governments from preventing, regulating, or restricting factory farm (CAFO) operations.  The legislation would nullify zoning rules in many Indiana counties which currently have rules governing the placement of livestock facilities.

We feel this bill could be particularly devastating to a county, such as Steuben, that depends on its natural resources. Please sign this petition and share immediately.  A hearing on Senate Bill 249 by the Senate Agriculture Committee will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015. For more information on a proposed CAFO in Steuben County, please see the attached link.
