End your Indifference to Palestinian suffering
The Issue
'As customers and former customers of Sainsbury’s, we call on you to end immediately your trade with companies which profit from Israel’s occupation. Sainsbury’s: your claims to be an ethical company appear to be a sham. You are contributing to the profits of companies whose operations are illegal under international law. End this trade now, trade which results in the destruction of Palestinian farming communities and drives them from their lands.
We call on you to show your customers that you really are committed to ethical trade.'
Many of us have been campaigning for over two years, calling on Sainsbury's to live up to it's ethical self image and end its support for illegal Israeli settlements. Sainsbury's management has shown complete disdain for its thousands of concerned shoppers and the many letters of complaint that have been sent. It has failed completely to answer our questions about how it justifies its trade with companies such as Mehadrin, which operate extensive parts of their business on stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank. Sainsbury's has failed completely to answer questions about its role in supporting a trade which results in the destruction of Palestinian farming communities and the driving of communities from their land. Mike Coupe, Sainsbury's Chief Executive, has not even taken the trouble to set up a meeting with the many, many groups and concerned individuals who have communicated their concerns to Sainsbury's.
This petition is a call to Sainsbury's to finally show that it is concerned with the welfare of Palestinians and that it will end immediately its support for illegal Israeli settlements.
