Ban Disposable Plastic Straws in Sainsbury's
Ban Disposable Plastic Straws in Sainsbury's
Plastic is destroying our oceans - Morrisons and Tesco's have pledged to stop selling plastic straws - Sainsbury's it's now your turn!
It is estimated that over 8.5 million straws are used in the UK alone and most of these will end up in our oceans! Few people actually realise that straws are amongst the top 10 items found during beach clean ups, and can be extremely dangerous to our marine life. Only this week a sperm whale was found on a Spanish beach with over 29 kilos of plastic in its stomach and blocking its digestive system. If we don't make a change now, by the year 2050 there will more plastic in the ocean than fish!
Petitions against restaurants and supermarkets like Tesco's, Morrisons and Wetherspoons has forced them to take the issue of plastic straws seriously. I think it is important to try and get as many companies as possible to commit to reducing the quantity of plastic straws being used everyday which is why I am calling on the UK's second largest supermarket chain: Sainsbury's to stop using plastic straws in their cafes and selling them in their store.
Sainsbury's already sell biodegradable paper straws, and I believe if enough of us speak out we can force Sainsbury's to stop selling plastic straws completely.
Together, let’s save our oceans!
