Don't split Warringah

Warringah residents need to know that there are plans afoot to split our community in two, WITHOUT A VOTE and giving half to Manly and half to Pittwater. Premier Mike Baird has not ruled out this absurd idea. We need to let him know that we don’t want this to happen.
According to the recent Local Government Structural Change report, the cost of splitting Warringah and dividing it up between Manly Council and Pittwater Council would be a loss of $248 million over a 10 year period. We as ratepayers across the whole of the Northern Beaches would end up footing the bill. This would see an increase in our rates and loss of services to our community.
Splitting Warringah is just illogical. It makes no sense geographically, financially or culturally.
Brookvale and Dee Why have always been identified as important linked centres and the plan is to put them in separate council areas. Belrose would go to Manly and Cromer to Pittwater.
Our facilities would no longer be owned or controlled by us. Things such as our sporting fields would be under their care. Manly have eight fields that are contracted out and most are poorly maintained. Warringah has over 100 sporting fields in the area. That is why we are the home of soccer at Cromer and netball at Curl Curl. And what about our new Narrabeen Lagoon Trail or the PCYC under construction? They do not have the commitment, money or infrastructure to manage our sporting and recreational facilities.
Because of our strong financial position, and lowest rates of the Beaches Councils, our neighbours see us as something of a "cash cow" and may use this opportunity to finance their projects and pay off their own debts. They may do this by selling off our assets.
Residents are proud of Warringah’s achievements, community and diversity. It's time to turn that pride into action.
This is indeed a rallying cry - if you're a Warringah resident or a concerned citizen and you don't want to see our brilliant community split down the middle, you need to sign this petition. And then share it with family and friends. Remember there will be no vote on this.
Not only will your name be added to the growing list of angry residents who don't want to see our community broken up, this petition will be automatically sent to our local State Members and to the Minister for Local Government so they know just how serious we are.
It would be great to see some letters in the paper too - so please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mr Premier, don’t split the Northern Beaches. Publicly rule out the splitting of Warringah.
