Fur-free Fashion Fight @ Fraser Group

The Issue

May I have your attention Shoppers please.

This is a public service announcement relating to House Of Fraser's current animal welfare standards:

CEO Mike Ashley has yet again defied public condemnation and reversed their prior long standing fur-free policy so now HoF is one of the only remaining high street chains in the UK selling real fur (Fraser Group also sell real fur at Flannels clothing store). This is despite his spokespeople publicly denouncing the heinous product and industry only last year in 2019 where they referred to killing for fur as unsustainable and I quote "unnecessary animal suffering" that their customers clearly don't want to pay for.

However, Coyote's are still being trapped and shot to death for their suppliers Canada Goose and Parajumpers.

Racoon dogs are still being factory farmed in tiny cages for their supplier Pyranex. Geese, ducks and turkeys plucked alive and stitched up for down and feathers. Rabbits and foxes are skinned alive and don't forget about the cow's still being victimised for their skin when pineapples can make pleather and mushrooms make muskin.

All of this barbarity just for vanity items, when there are cruelty-free synthetic substitute garments available designed to perfectly mimic natural animal beauty and can actually out perform them for protection from the elements.

HoF were exposed as trying to pass real fur as faux fur in 2017 by Humane Society International UK, so, dear customers, I implore you to please be diligent when shopping here. I recommend learning how to conduct the tests to distinguish between the cruel and peaceful items yourselves (blowing on fur, falls flat if fake, goes circular if real), because clearly you cannot trust this business to meet your expected ethical standards.

The UK banned fur farming 2 decades ago in 2000 on ethical grounds, and yet here we are: still hell bent on abusing animals for profit even when animal agriculture caused this pandemic and is a leading cause of climate change.

Our consumer choices matter, not only to the animals that were skinned, bludgeoned, shot, electrocuted or gassed to death in this House of Horrors, but also for humanity's survival.

Please consider the past, present and future victims on your seemingly benign purchases. We can do better than this. We must do better than this.

Raise your own voice to demand CEO Mike Ashley reinstate HoF's fur-free policy as most major fashion brands have already done (Prada, Gucci, Versace, DKNY, Burberry, Chanel, Michael Kors, Jimmy Choo).

Please sign this petition to help apply pressure.

Whilst boycotting HoF, try shopping at the growing number of exclusively vegan and local UK clothing stores: Beyond Skin, Stella McCartney, Nudie Jeans, Wills Shoes to name just a few.

Thanks for your attention.
