Change the name of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson Elementary

Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson Elementary are schools our neighborhood can be proud of. But when I moved to Dallas, I was surprised and disappointed that these schools--in one of the most vibrant, forward-thinking areas of Dallas--were named to honor Confederacy figures. I had a conversation with Phillip Kingston about this, and he informed me that the Ku Klux Klan chose the names of these schools about 75 years ago while their presence and influence in Dallas was still strong.
Wow.
I think it's time we break our schools' and our neighborhood's connection to the KKK.
The DMN had an article in May 8, 2015 that also advocates for changing the names of these schools.
Please add your name to those of your neighbors who want Eric Cowan and the DISD Board of Trustees to give these schools a name that reflects the values of 21st century Dallas.
