Nuclear power is too costly to the environment and the people of central Iowa. MidAmerican's plan to have us the rate-payers pay for the plant and pay for it upfront whether they end up completing it or not is outrageous, especially when they want to sell more then half of the power out of state. They want to use our money upfront to pay for the thing with no guarentee's and then ship it out to other states to turn a profit. MidAmerican wants to spend a minimum of 2 billion dollars on this plant, however similar cost structures for other plants show these things can end up costing billions more in cost over-runs...hence why WALL STREET won't fund them without leaving us rate-payers on the hook. We as a state should tell them that if they want us to pay for power they should make it either gas or renewables, preferably renewables. Sign this petition if you wish to have Iowa continue to lead the way in a renewable energy future. If Fukushima has taught us anything its that we are not able at the present to deal with a catastrophic failure at these facilities, and a catastrophic failure could cause a contamination in the food supply for much of the nation even much of the world.
