The Issue

Problem
With the introduction of Windows 10, Microsoft worked on creating a beautiful, fast, energy-efficient browser called Edge.

Edge was powered by a stripped down of Trident called EdgeHTML, which was lauded for it's speed and capabilities.

With the recent news of Edge switching to Chromium, all of that work might be lost, as well as further consolidating Google's dominance in the browser market(as lamented by both the general media, and Firefox's official blog), resulting in an unhealthy market.

Solution
Releasing the source code for EdgeHTML would help a lot in mitigating those risks it, allowing the community to step in and create another efficient, viable, light-weight alternative in the browser area, encouraging web developers to keep websites close to the W3 standards and not incur technical debt, which would help everyone long term, even the Edge Chromium team.

In addition, it would be a veritable treasure trove of information for people that want to learn about efficient coding of rendering engines, helping to train the next generation of developers that will build our new, interconnected world.
