Breed-based legislation is the banning or placement of strict laws on certain breeds of dogs. There is no "master list" of these breeds, and extremely limited criteria for what these breeds must possess. Anyone making these legislations are able to choose any breed, from rottweilers to golden retrievers. These bans force families to decide between a place to live and keeping a very important member of their family: their beloved dogs. The possibility for these bans extends the power to landlords to ban specific breeds from living on their properties, forcing renters living in an area with no bans in place to have an even smaller range of possible places to live.
