With this petition, we want to introduce the law in Michigan for safe storage of guns. That's it! This petition is NOT about politics! It is about common sense and about safety of our children.

Background:
Oxford High School Shooting is a tragedy! I’m numb! I’m devastated, shocked and shattered as an adult to see our children going through these tragedies. We as the People; we as the American society, must create the culture that changes our laws and prevent gun violence once for all! We must continue promoting human values that honor life, respect for each other, promote kindness and caring for each other.
Most importantly, we must make laws that prevent tragedies like this. According to Sandyhook Promise website (https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/gun-violence/16-facts-about-gun-violence-and-school-shootings/ gun violence and school shootings are a uniquely American epidemic. “EACH DAY 8 children die from gun violence in America. Another 32 are shot and injured”. (More data from CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/index.html “An estimated 4.6 million American children live in a home where at least one gun is kept loaded and unlocked.”
EVERY week we have at least one shooting on our school grounds! No children nor parents in any of the other industrial countries have to deal with this level of fear; fear of school shootings, as we do in America. Let us to STAND UP as parents and lead the change in our laws that prevent death and injuries of our children. Please let us not to hide behind archaic explanations and look at the facts and numbers. This is AMERICA and still, our children are 100s of times more at risk to get killed and injured by gun violence at their schools compared to other nations.

THE HILL reported on 12/03/21 02:41 PM: [Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald was asked during a news conference on Friday (Dec/3/2021) what Michigan’s laws were regarding bringing a child to a firing range and practicing with them.“Good question. Michigan's laws are woefully inadequate. We don't have a safe storage law. We’re not legally required to store your weapon in a safe manner. Children are allowed to attend with their parents so long as their parent is present. So the answer to that question is we don't have strong enough laws,” the Michigan prosecutor answered. McDonald emphasized during the news conference that she was not against people owning guns, saying that she knew a lot of people who responsibly owned guns. At the same time she noted that "it's your responsibility — it's your duty — to make sure that you don't give access to this deadly weapon to somebody that you have reason to believe is going to harm someone."]
