Currently within Michigan, our schools are closed until at least April 6 with some as long as April 13, 2020 due to the global emergency response to COVID-19. 

Our school districts have rallied together and taken extreme measures to put together learning packets, necessary materials, and online learning resources for our students to still be provided the necessary learning during this 3-4 weeks. 

The Michigan Department of Education has decided that these measures will not be enough and that this time at home will not be counted towards the academic school year. 

I ask for this decision to be paused and reconsidered until we can even get through the timeframe we are currently under before putting more stress on the teachers, families and students. We haven’t even been able to quantify one way or another if this is the right decision to make. It is unnecessary, and a complete insult to the hard work of the teachers and administrative staff.
