Support unmarried women in Taiwan who need infertility treatments
The Issue
I am an American who has been living in Taiwan for the last 9 years. I recently found out that I have unspecified infertility which requires special treatments in order for me to have a chance at becoming pregnant. Because I am unmarried, I am unable, under Taiwan law, to receive treatment. I can adopt a child as a single woman, but I can not get the treatment needed to have one on my own. I believe this law to be unfair as not all women want to get married but still have a desire to be a mother, and government should not be able to decide what a woman can do with her body. Getting this law changed will not help me, as my time limit is too short, but I hope that it can help other women in my situation in the future.
