SUCCESS ACADEMY MUST GO

The Issue

What we are fighting for is not to get them out of the building but to not take one of our Corridors from the second floor which is used for special needs children to get their therapy. They also brought up they want us to go 50-50 on a library because we have a non-functioning library and share it but we won't be able to do that because will have to use that room as a classroom.

Our students that have IEP's (Individualized Education Plan) make up 20% of our school. Our ELL (English Language Learners) makes up 8% of our school as well. We need our space to accommodate our students. There are 24 rooms needed for Success Academy and we have only 16 rooms available on our 3rd floor for them. We cannot give any more space due to them being utilized by our students. Over 25% of our students get special services which entails speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Success Academy expects us to push all the therapists in one room to service our students and it’s close to impossible due to the specific services they need.

So in other wards we cannot give what we don’t have!

In recent events The New York Times revealed an article about Success Academy keeping a "Got to Go" list of students to push out of school. Many of these students were routinely suspended until their parents withdrew them. The report followed the release of new data showing that Success Academy suspends elementary school students at seven times the rate of New York City’s public elementary schools including many children in Kindergarten.

How can we allow this school to come into Public School 297 when they suspend the majority of their Black & Latino students and students with disabilities.

Eva Moskowitz does not care about our community and the needs of our children.

She has Hedge fund Billionaires in her back pocket which allows her to get funding from the U.S. Education Dept.

With those types of connections she is not regulated with her Charter School and leaves our community vulnerable to these types of conflicts. Who will protect our babies?
