This decision is a great victory of the Brazilian people and of the international community, including each one of us, who promptly reacted against the extinction of the reserve.
This victory demonstrates that each individual in our global society can make things happen.
Having said this, it is vital to keep the pressure on the Brazilian Congress and Government. The reasons are:
1. The above legal decision made by Judge Spanholo is preliminary and the Government has already appealed.
2. The extinction of the RENCA reserve is just one among many measures encouraging deforestation and threatening the native population in the Amazon that have already been undertaken or are being discussed by influential members of the Congress and of the Government.
Among others, we should mention the proposal made by the Environment Ministry to release 350,000 hectares (70 x 50 km2) of the National Forest of Jamanxim (corresponding to 1/3 of its total surface) for agricultural use, mining and logging.

In conclusion, the fight continues, so let us spread the information as widely as possible!
