Just when we thought there will be an end to this sad episode when Maria Sutton was expected at court on the 19th to face sentencing we are informed that the sentencing reports are not complete and this has now been rescheduled to the 2nd of June.Ironically this will be two days from the anniversary of the date she killed Graham .
To compound the upset and frustration we were not informed of this action by either the CPS or the court services and it was sheer chance that a police officer had noticed that it had been removed from listings and informed me personally.Surprisingly the court services were also considering using a video link for this case as a cost saving so Sutton didn't need to attend court although my family and I were preparing for a 500 mile round trip to witness justice???????
I am unsure if these are the normal actions of our legal system when someone dies ,I hope not, but it seems to me that death by careless driving is so far down the statutes it is not viewed in the same context as murder/manslaughter but more close to lesser offences and that is reflected in the past sentencing and also the total inconsideration to Graham's family and friends.
Finally as I said in my previous update the reading of the bill has again been delayed ,I contacted four MPs two weeks ago to question why this has happened twice and have had no response from any of them .This bill is needed more than ever to protect everyone from the blaise way some minority motorists treat other road users with their inconsiderate behavior and also that all deaths are viewed seriously in the same context by our legal system
