A safe, regulated, and legal place to drag race in San Jose/South Bay Area

A safe, regulated, and legal place to drag race in San Jose/South Bay Area

The Issue

As a member of the car community in the South Bay Area, and an active member in car meets, car shows, etc. I have seen, heard, and watched illegal street racing too many times to count. I’ve witnessed crashes, safety hazards, and bystanders that have been put in danger, for these people just to compete in races out of pure fun and adrenaline. My goal is to have South Bay cities and counties come together to create a 1/4 mile drag strip, open to the public, in a deserted area of land, where people can get their adrenaline in a safe and regulated area. Obviously the track would need to meet sound laws and close at a reasonable time, as to not disturb any neighboring properties, whether constructed in the scarcely populated hills, or in a rural area. Maintenance could be done by people serving community service hours, or volunteers willing to help get racing off the streets. Each person looking to race would be paying a small fee, possibly as a monthly charge resulting in anytime access during operating hours, or an at the door, one time fee, for people that wouldn’t be visiting the strip as often. This money could be put towards anything the city needed funding for. This would bring a community of people together and relieve the commuting streets of illegal racing. With the help of your petition vote we can start to bring safety and control to a sport which many people are not willing to give up just because there is a risk factor. This factor being safety to themselves, and for the lives and safety of others on the road.
