Key Biscayne Skatepark

The Issue

A skatepark in Key Biscayne would be ground breaking. Skateboarding is looked down upon by many but not all residents in Key Biscayne. Skateboarding is an amazing sport that brings together many distinct and diverse cultures and races. It’s all about the love of the sport and wanting to succeed. For us residents it’s been a tough battle that we don’t want to fight, regarding a place to peacefully and legally enjoy the art of skateboarding. Lot 11 skatepark, which was recently opened in November of 2019 has had a huge impact on the lifestyle of Miami residents for the better. For us resident skaters and teenagers, a skatepark would bring the community together by exposing other residents to the good impact it can have on teenage motivation and determination. Not only could this benefit the skaters but also teen residents can have a safe space where they can feel comfortable to interact with one another. Recently a lot of events have been happening involving teens being irresponsible, but we want to help solve this and bring back the loved Key Biscayne we had not to long ago. This skatepark could be a turning point in the teenage communities actions and give them something to feel responsible about. With 2 possible locations, 530 Crandon Blvd or the combined property of 571 and 599 Harbor Dr, it is highly accessible for residents no matter where on Key Biscayne they live.
