Every day, around the United States, horses, burros and other animals are brought to auctions to be sold for their meat value. They come from all walks of life. Some are former work horses, others are injured race horses, some are unwanted pets. Often, they have been abused or neglected and arrive at the auctions weak, starving, injured and near death - unnecessarily.

These animals often have a LOT of life left in them, and a lot of love to give a benevolent caretaker. They just need a chance to survive.

Horse rescues often show up at these auctions to buy as many as possible, bringing them back to volunteer organizations, staffed by volunteers, where they are nursed back to health, fed and loved.

We don't eat horses, or export horse meat in the United States, but in Mexico and Canada they do. Many of these horses are hauled off of American soil, in overcrowded trucks, and sold for their meat value. This simply needs to stop. By signing this petition, you are showing your disapproval of the inhumane treatment and auctioning of horses for sale to Mexico and Canada. You are stating to the lawmakers that you want this type of auctioning to be made permanently illegal in the United States.
