Clarifying the Truth About This Case: What the Jury Concluded
We want to address some of the concerns and misinformation circulating about this case, particularly regarding the violence that occurred and the tragic loss of life. Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the victim. But it’s important you know the facts:
Michael Was NOT Convicted of Murder or Any Death-Related Crime
The jury in this case listened to all the evidence and testimony—including police reports and statements made by witnesses who had incentive to save themselves. The result? The jury could not find definite proof that the accused was responsible for the murder. To be clear
He was NOT convicted of murder, manslaughter, or any causing someone’s death.
Instead, the only charges he was convicted of were gun and drug offenses—charges that he does not deny but again they were NOT convictions directly causing the loss of life in this case.
Why Was He Still Punished So Harshly?
Unfortunately, a major reason he was blamed and prosecuted so aggressively is because he exercised his constitutional right to remain silent and refused to accept a plea deal. In America, no one should be punished simply for choosing not to incriminate themselves, but that is exactly what happened here.
Unfair Outcomes: Adults Walk Free While a Minor Pays the Price
To make matters worse, the four adults involved in the same crime have all taken plea deals and are now free, while this young man—a minor at the time—faces the harshest punishment for the robberies
We Demand Fairness and Accountability—Not Scapegoating
We are not excusing anyone’s actions, but asking for true justice. This man should not be used as a scapegoat, nor denied his rights just because it’s the easiest route for the system. He has served 28 years of his life and payment for his wrongdoings. This is exponentially more time than if he would commit the same crime today.
Please join us in demanding a fair review of this case—grounded in truth, not assumptions or convenience. Let’s stand for real justice.
