Change the AIME Cutoff for the AMC 12A to 90
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
The cutoff for the AMC 12A/B will be released tomorrow, but there are many speculations based on evidence provided by many AOPSers that the 12A cutoff will be 93. Given the validated Taiwan cutoff for the 12A (https://imgur.com/gallery/41TQJ) which is 90, it would be extremely unfair to US contestants if the 93 cutoff is the case instead of 90.
Given that the teachers manual (pg. 6) says that "for the AMC 12, at least the top 5% of all scorers on each version are invited," keeping in mind the invitees are the top 5% of all scorers, the cutoff score for the AIME to indicate these top 5% must be the same globally. The speculated discrepancy between the cutoff score for the 12A in Taiwan (90), and that in the States (93) clearly undermines this statement in the manual.
The deadline for registration of the Taiwan branch AIME competition is March the 6th, and there is no doubt that many teachers have already registered their students scoring above 90 on the 2018 AMC 12A for the exam. Students who scored above 90 in the US are in no way less qualified than students scoring above 90 in Taiwan and should, therefore, be given the same, fair opportunity to take the AIME exam.
Although we still need to wait for a few hours to see if it is officially the case, we hope that you can sign this petition to help us ensure the fairness of this contest and the equality of all contestants' experience before it is too late for us to do so.
We all have worked so hard towards this exam and anyone in our position would try to fight for what our hard work deserves. Please sign our petition and thank you so much for your support!
