In a step toward victory, Texas A&M's muscular dystrophy (MD) laboratory is shutting down its Golden Retriever breeding program.

The termination means that the university will no longer intentionally breed dogs with the muscular dystrophy gene to use these innocent dogs in painful research.

The exciting news comes after years of pressure from PETA and the support of more than 930,000 people who signed a Change.org petition calling for Texas A&M to shut down its lab and rehome these dogs.

The end of the breeding program is important progress. However, PETA's campaign will keep pushing until the lab is closed, and each dog is adopted into a loving home.
