Honor Walt Disney's vision and save the Iconic Disneyland Band
The Issue
The Magic Kingdom has lost much of its magic over the years, including Walt Disney's vision.
Walt Disney grew up in Marceline, Missouri and one of his fondest childhood memories was the town band. So much so that he started the Disneyland Band to share that fond experience with park guests. The Disneyland Band was originally hired for a two-week engagement beginning with the Park's opening in 1955, but was held over by popular demand, and is now closing in on their 60th year.
Walt hired the best musicians in Los Angeles, which is still true today. The current Disneyland Band has collectively dedicated over 350 years as musicians in the Park. These world famous, seasoned professional musicians each have resumes a mile long that include movie soundtracks, films, television and radio appearances, albums with top artists, and professional symphony, band and concert credits.
Generations have come for the nostalgia, small town charm and amazing musicianship of the Disneyland Band, not to see this talent wasted on high-energy choreography and antics. There are plenty of atmospheric groups already in the Park. The Disneyland Band does not need to be one of them.
Walt Disney's Disneyland Band is part of what makes Disneyland so special and is a cut above the rest. No other theme park can tout this kind of talent. The Disneyland Resort should be honoring and celebrating the iconic Disneyland Band that park guests have come to love and cherish, not replacing Walt's original vision. July 17, 2015, is the Disneyland Band’s 60th anniversary too!
