Fitchburg Line: Add Stops to the Proposed 5:36 PM Express Train

The Issue

To State Senators Michael Barrett and Jamie Eldridge, State Representatives Cory Atkins and Thomas Stanley, and Paul Regan, Executive Director of MBTA Advisory Board:

Riders on the Fitchburg Commuter Rail will face significant hardship if the December 14 schedule changes go into effect. The proposed elimination of service from the current schedule will force commuters to seek alternate transit, adding to already heavy car traffic and competition for limited parking. The ridership of Lincoln, Concord, West Concord, and surrounding towns will be most significantly affected by proposed changes to the evening commute.

Please convey our concerns to the MBTA and help make the following changes:

  • Allow the 5:36 PM express train from North Station to stop in Lincoln, Concord, and W. Concord (as per the current schedule). Without these stops, commuters who use these stations have only two options to get home during rush hour, the 4:54 PM and 5:55 PM trains. Commuters who work from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM with no schedule flexibility have only the later option, which would also include a 30-45 minute wait at North Station.
  • Current schedule is here.
  • Upcoming schedule is here.
