Demand Fiverr To Stop Exploiting The Work Of Their Freelancers
The Issue
Fiverr International Ltd. develops an e-commerce platform that allows people to buy and sell digital services. It operates through the following geographical segments: U.S., Europe, Asia Pacific, Rest of the World, and Israel. The firm offers a host of different digital products and services provided by small businesses and freelancers through their marketplace.
The company was founded by Micha Kaufman and Shai Wininger in 2009 and is currently headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel. The platform boasts a net worth of over $700 million as of the writing of this petition, and completes on average over 2 million transactions a year!
The issue lies in how Fiverr has been financially scaling this success through the exploitation of its marketplace freelancers. Many of them perform these services from low-income cities, states, villages, and countries, which all contribute to the mass success of its overall marketplace.
During this coronavirus pandemic, Fiverr has made no initiative to protect the gig economy of its workers via a temporary waive of transaction fees, gig fees, etc. Fiverr has repeatedly not only transaction fees to its customer base utilizing its marketplace when placing these gigs with these freelancers, but they receive a 20% commission from the gig workers who complete the work through their platform, and if the customer tips the worker to help offset the cost, Fiverr takes 20% of this too.
Fiverr does not award 100% of the tips to its marketplace workers. We're reaching out to send a message to Micha Kaufman and Fiverr International Ltd. that we are tired of being taken advantage of and our work needs to be honored, respected, and given a fair share of the pie.
We are asking for the Fiverr community to sign this petition in efforts to terminate the dipping into workers' tips through the guise of commission fees and for temporary relief during this coronavirus pandemic while providing 5-star services to its customer businesses. Please help us make change today by sharing and signing this petition!
