The Issue

🕊️ Petition to Deny Bail in the Murder Case of Micah Klaasen

To: The Honourable Magistrate and Prosecuting Authority of Gqeberha

We, the undersigned members of the South African public, stand united in grief and outrage over the brutal murder of 16-year-old Micah Klaasen, who was viciously attacked on Mimosa Road in Fairview on the night of October 4, 2025, following a community sporting event.

Micah died in a pool of his own blood, having sustained multiple injuries including a fatal stab wound to the chest. The accused—Chad Mitchell (20), Josh Jones (18), Lucius Samuels (18), and Gerald Rubenheimer (18)—now face charges of murder.

We believe that granting bail in this case would:

- Undermine the severity of the crime and the trauma inflicted on Micah’s family and community.

- Risk interference with ongoing investigations and potential intimidation of witnesses.

- Send a dangerous message to other youth and communities about accountability and justice.

Micah’s death has shaken our city and our nation. He was a child with dreams, dignity, and a future stolen in a moment of senseless violence. We call on the court to uphold the values of justice, safety, and public trust by denying bail to the accused.

Let this be a moment where our legal system affirms that the lives of our children matter—and that justice will not be delayed or diluted.

We demand:

- That bail be denied to all accused in the murder of Micah Klaasen.

- That the case be treated with the utmost seriousness and urgency.

- That Micah’s memory be honoured through a fair and uncompromising pursuit of justice.
