MICA; 100% REDRESS AND SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES.

The Issue

Mica is a widespread problem that's affecting thousands of families throughout Ireland. Mica is a naturally occurring mineral found in building blocks, however, too much of this mineral causes severe damage to properties as blocks absorb more water which ultimately causes the blocks in houses to crumble.

Many families are suffering with Mica and some are still waiting on conformation by a structural engineer. Like many others, my house is suspected of having Mica. The support in place to help families with Mica just isn't enough. As it stands families will only be permitted as much as €420,000, a capped figure which varies on the condition of the property. Nowadays the cost of building houses has increased dramatically from that of 15 to 20 years ago, to the point where not even the €420,000 cap will cover the full cost.

As well as families having to make up the difference that the €420,000 wont cover, they also have to pay for the likes of rent for anything up to two years, which can cost upwards of €15,000 to €18,000 a year! Families would also be expected to pay the cost of connecting and disconnecting from utilities would could cost around €40,000!

The government is aware of this and yet is unprepared to fully support Donegal families in their time of need. We need to let the government know that this is unacceptable. With your support we can pressurise the government to fully compensate Donegal families as they endeavour to rebuild their Mica damaged homes and rebuild their lives.

Please sign this petition and support local Donegal families.

Thank you for your support at this stressful time.
