The Issue

In defiance against Ron Desantis' executive order which suspends local Covid mandates within the State of Florida, local governments and municipalities have refused to comply and still require the public to wear masks in certain occasions.

Metrobus drivers are required to deny access on board to Miami-Dade County residents who choose not to wear a face mask. This requirement is based on a federal mandate from the TSA which extended masking requirements on all public transport riders until January 18, 2022. The deadline has been extended multiple times.

This is an infringement on a person's bodily autonomy.

All mask mandates at the city, county, or state level, ought to be repealed, but especially for civil resources that are used commonly in the day-to-day lives of Americans, including buses. Not only is the bus mask mandate based on an unconstitutional mandate from the TSA which intends to regulate beyond interstate commerce, but also the state of Florida has no contingent need for Covid mandates, given the last 9 weeks of decline in cases, and 90% of Miami-Dade residents having received at least one shot of the Covid vaccine, let alone those who have gained natural immunity from contracting the virus.

Please help put an end to any and all mask mandates of any kind in the State of Florida — both locally and at the state level. All members of the Miami Dade community, masked or not, ought to be treated fairly and allowed access to public transportation in Miami-Dade county.
