Hurricane Irma left nothing but destruction in its path almost everywhere across Florida.
Some people don't understand it's too soon.
The damage caused by Irma is unbelievable, costing many their livelihoods and health—so many are at stake even right now, post-Irma. Power, running water, and air-conditioning in the city of heat are still not en route for a bit over 200,000, who must now return to school. How are people going to rest up through the Miami heat? These severe conditions are not suitable for living—how does Miami-Dade expect us to be up and ready in the early a.m.?
As an effort to compete with Broward County, Miami-Dade County has cut off our time to prepare ourselves, and it's absolutely ridiculous. As barbaric as this may be to kids only, it is so for parents as well.
Streetlights inside Sunny Isles Beach are still not working, as Biscayne as well. Streets in Miami require severe maintenance, and accidents are unevitable. Rush hour is not only going to be a pain for children, but will take a major toll on parents and teachers. Traffic lights aren't even working in majority of Miami. Majority of Miami is still requiring maintenance over Irma's aftermath.
And once more, it's too soon.
