Miami Dade County has a law that all breeds considered pit bulls and pit bull mixes are illegal in Miami Dade. This law is not only un fair but unconstitutional as well. our pledge says " with liberty and justice for all " we as people do not have the liberty to own whatever dog we'd like and them the dogs do not have the justice to be treated as individuals but instead are all labeled as monsters. Pit bulls were mad created as all dog breeds were. We specifically got a bulldog (not the present day bulldog ) and a terrier to create the perfect large game hunting dog. They were always a sport dog that needed to work closely with humans there for could not be aggressive towards us. They were first bred for a sport where they were pinned against a much larger animal like a bear or panther in a pit and where not let out until one of the animals were dead. This sport was later banned and instead of pinning them against larger animals they started pinning them against other dogs in a closed pit hits the name "pit bull'. This horrible sport like the one before did not end until one of the dogs were either dead or close to death. For both sports however the dogs owners would have to work very closely with their dogs and would kill any dog that showed any sign of being aggressive toward humans. In the early 1980's pit bulls were nicknamed " Nanny Dogs " because they would protect children. This might seem shocking to you because we mostly hear on T.V that pit bulls kill little kids and attack owners, but you see media also exaggerates anything that has to do with a pit bull attack and will never give you the whole story. The majority of pit bull attacks are because the owner showed it how to be aggressive towards humans or other animals or because they were never taught how to handle themselves hits lack of socialization. Today more than half of the dogs in shelters are pit bulls or pit bull mixes that were taken away from their families because of BSL. They were not unwanted and are not aggressive as with the first hit of aggressive behavior the staff would destroy the animal. If you lifted BSL their would be so many less dogs in shelters and their would be room for the ones that do need it, not the ones that were loved but taken away. Not all pit bulls are bad, their just like any other breed. Any dog can have a bad day and all dogs snap, they are animals! and its in their nature. So that's why we should " punish the deed and not the breed " have a heart and research some more about this breed. Go to your local shelters and spend time with one of them, they will completely change your perspective.
