Kendall Residents, love your commute? Save Calusa and our 99 year Covenant

The Issue

The Miami-Dade Commissioners are set to vote on releasing Calusa's 99-year Covenant that runs from 1968-2067 protecting our 168 acres of green space (the former Calusa Golf Course). We must preserve our quality of life! Releasing our Covenant would pave the way (literally) for a massive development of 550+ new luxury homes where the Calusa Country Club is now located. This would have a devastating effect on our wildlife, schools, traffic, infrastructure and community!

The property purchased by Facundo Bacardi  in 2003, would bring an additional 1100 to 2000 cars to an already overwhelmed West to East Kendall traffic.  The construction would impact Killian Drive (SW 104 St), Kendall Drive (SW 88 St) 127th Ave, 137th Ave, SW 117 Ave, State Road 874, Turnpike and the 826.  No new schools or parks are planned and their latest solution to the additional load of cars is to close off 1 Lane on Kendall Drive exclusively for buses.  All of Kendall will be impacted as cars and trucks looking for less congestion will spread to Sunset, Miller and Bird Road.

Let’s join together to tell the commissioners how we feel about this issue.  Please sign our petition to let the Commissioners know our opposition to releasing our 99 year Covenant and development on this green space!  The BCC vote is now scheduled for an October 29th virtual hearing so time is of the essence.
