Don't Open "Stingray Cove"!

Don't Open "Stingray Cove"!

The Issue

Stingray Cove is a new interactive program in construction at the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Mirage is already under fire for failure to provide proper care to their dolphins. We do not believe that Stingray Cove is an exhibit that should be displayed in the middle of the Mojave Desert.

Stingrays are animals that like to burrow into the sand on the bottom of an ocean. They also have the ability to sense vibrations within the water. With an interactive exhibit featuring a petting pool and "trainer for a day", these aquatic creatures will be subjected to much stress.

Robin Leach of the Las Vegas Sun reported back in June 2011 that Mirage was building a brand new exhibit that would be called "Stingray Cove". In August 2013, VegasChatter also reported that the Stingray Cove exhibit was still in the plans for Mirage. Opening date was predicted to be April 2014, taking place where the elephant and alpacas used to be.

April 2014 did bring a lot of new contruction for the habitat- but Stingray Cove has yet to open. We hope it never does.
