We, the undersigned, are community members who will be impacted by the MTA elevator rehabilitation efforts at the 181st St. and 190th St. (A) train stations that will run August 2019–20 and September 2020–21, respectively, and the 191st and 181st St. (1) train stations that will run February 2020–21 and March 2021–22, respectively. We understand the necessity of these efforts and welcome them. However, the rehabilitation of these elevators will take a significant toll on our community. The lack of mitigation by MTA officials is an insulting oversight that must be corrected immediately. These closures disproportionately impact our friends and family with mobility issues, including the elderly, those with physical disabilities, and families with small children. These valued community members should continue to have equitable access to transit during this work. These closures will also disrupt the flow of life between geographically disparate parts of our neighborhood, which include the deepest subway tunnels in NYC. We demand that the MTA work with community stakeholders to put in place immediately a shuttle bus route or commensurate solution as an urgent matter of transit equity.

Nosotros, los abajo firmantes, somos miembros de la comunidad quienes sentiremos el efecto de la rehabilitación de ascensores en las estaciones de la línea (A) de 181st St. y 190th St. entre agosto 2019 y 2020 y entre septiembre 2020 y 2021 respectivamente, y las estaciónes de la línea (1) de 191st St. y 181st St. entre febrero 2020 y 2021 y entre marzo 2021 y 2022 respectivamente. Comprendemos bien la necesidad de estos esfuerzos y les damos las bienvenidas. Sin embargo, la rehabilitación de estos ascensores nos va a costar mucho como la comunidad que lo utiliza. La falta de mitigación por oficiales de la MTA es un descuido insultante que se debe corregir inmediata-mente. Estos cierres afectan desproporcionadamente a nuestros amigxs y familia con impedimentos de movilidad, incluso lxs ancianos, gente con discapacidades físicas, y familias con niñxs pequeñxs. Estos estimados miembros de la comunidad deben seguir teniendo acceso equitativo al tránsito durante esta renovación. Estos cierres también alterarán el flujo de la vida cotidiana entre partes diversas geográficamente de nuestro vecindario, incluyendo los túneles más profundos de NYC. Exigimos que la MTA colabore con grupos interesados de la comunidad para implementar inmediatamente una ruta de autobús de enlace o semejante solución como un asunto urgente de equidad de tránsito.
